JOB DESCRIPTIONS


Below are the descriptions of the available positions in the AHS Drama Company.  Please read each position carefully before you apply.


  • Student Assistant Director - The student assistant director reports directly to the show director.  It is the job of the student assistant director to handle any duties the show director may give them.  They are responsible for taking role at each rehearsal, locking up at the end of rehearsal, making sure all handouts and necessary schedules are given to the actors, setting up any auditions/rehearsals that the director asks, directing scenes under the direction of the show director, ensuring lines are memorized, etc.  This is only a small portion of what the student assistant director will do.  The rest of the job is usually "on the spot" and varies from day to day. *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in company for a season may apply for this position.  ONLY juniors and seniors may apply for this position.

  • Choreography - This job is broken into a few different jobs.  The show director will gather all the applications for Choreographer and then will select ONE lead choreographer who is responsible for ensuring all the choreography for a show is completed.  The rest of the applications will be considered for the "Choreography Team."  This team will be divided by musial number according to the show director and lead choreographer and will be responsible for designing and instructing dance numbers.  The choreography team will report to the lead choreographer, who will report to the show director.  *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in Company for a season may apply for this position.  Students who have not been in company may apply and will be considered for the Choreography Team.

  • Costume Designer - This position is for the lead Costume Designer on a show.  This person will report directly to the parent in charge of costumes for the show.  All the applications will be gathered and a lead costume designer will be selected.  The rest of the applications will be assembled into the costume design team.  The team will answer to the lead designer, who will answer to both the parent costumer and the show director.  This position involves meeting with actors to discuss their costumes, selecting costumes from the loft, working with other schools to borrow/lend costumes, etc.  *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in Company for a season may applay for this position.  Students who have not been in company may applay and will be considered for the Costume Design Team.

  • Student Lighting Director - This position is for the Student Lighting Director on a show.  This person reports directly to the tech director and the lighting director.  The student light director is reponsible for working with the lighting director to ensure that all of the lighting requirements for a show are taken care of.  This student will be hanging lights, working the light board, helping to design the lighting for a show, etc.  *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in Company for a season may apply for this position.  Applications for lighting team will be given to tech students during the first tech meeting of the year.
  • Student Sound Director - This person reports directly to the tech director and the sound director.  The student sound director is responsible for working with the sound director to ensure that all of the sound requirements for a show are taken care of.  This includes microphones, sound fx, etc.  This student will be researching sound fx, testing microphones, working the sound board, etc.  *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in Company for a season may apply for this position.  Applications for sound team will be given to tech students during the first tech meeting of the year.

  • Student Tech Director - The student technical director reports directly to the technical director.  It is the job of the student technical director to handle any duties the Technical director may give them.  They are responsible for taking role at each tech practice, locking up at the end of rehearsal, making sure all handouts and necessary schedules are given to the techies, setting up any meetings that the director asks, keeping track of the sets that are being constructed,  keeping track of the inventory and needs of the production, etc.  This is only a small portion of what the student technical director will do.  The rest of the job is usually "on the spot" and varies from day to day. *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in company for a season may apply for this position.  ONLY juniors and seniors may apply for this position.
  • Stage Manager - The stage manager reports directly to the show director.  The Stage Manager is now DIFFERENT than the student tech director.  The stage manager is more of a role now that will be done during the week of the show and during performances.  The stage manager will be required to take role at all the performances, make sure the cast is ready to go, call places, communicate with the booth, provide water to the cast, make sure the stage is cleaned up at the end of the performance, and keep track of stuff for the show and technical director. *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in company for a season may apply for this position.  ONLY  sophomores, juniors and seniors may apply for this position.
  • Prop Master/Mistress - The prop master/mistress reports to the show director while compiling the props and reports to the technical director during the show week and shows.  The prop master/mistress is reponsible for going through the show script and compiling a list of all necessary props for the production.  They will then be required to find the props in the storage loft or find a place where the director can purchase the items.  They will meet deadlines and must be required to work under pressure.  *NOTE: ONLY students who have been in company for a season may apply for this position.  ONLY juniors and seniors may apply for this position.
